Hello my name is Stacey, I am one of the co-founders of Solstice Midwives. While growing up in a rural farming town in Ontario I developed a fascination with natural medicine and herbs. I relocated to BC while I was starting my family and I enrolled in school to study holistic nutrition. I taught cooking classes for moms to feed their families healthy foods. I was naturally drawn to midwives for my pregnancies, the philosophies were similar; I resonated with the belief about the body’s ability to heal, and the body’s ability to birth, when nourished and supported.

My births were all unique; I had a cesarean birth, a VBAC (vaginal birth after cesarean) and then a homebirth.  I decided to pursue a career in midwifery training when my youngest went to school. I strongly believe in supporting my clients on their journey to feel empowered by their birth and I love the midwifery model of care which includes continuity and relationship.

During midwifery training, I was a postpartum doula, a birth doula and a volunteer for families new to Canada. While completing my degree at UBC I also had the life-changing experience of working in a global setting, I attended births in Thailand and Uganda. Learning about midwifery in a cross-cultural context was important for me to provide care for diverse communities.

I look forward to supporting you on your journey through pregnancy, birth and postpartum! We are so excited to meet you.

I’m Mary and I am one of the co-founders of Solstice Midwives. I completed my Midwifery Education at McMaster University in Ontario.  After graduation I moved cross country to the beautiful Fraser Valley and it’s been a pleasure to explore and support this community. It has been an exciting journey getting to provide midwifery care and support families through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.

Previous to midwifery, I completed a Bachelor of Science at Queen’s University where I developed a good foundation of knowledge on reproductive science, physiology, pharmacology and more. Outside of midwifery I enjoy time outdoors, trying new recipes and restaurants, and spending quality time with my friends and family. My husband and I have two playful dogs that we enjoy taking out on new adventures & long hikes. I look forward to meeting everyone!

Hello my name is Danielle and I’m one of the co-founders of Solstice Midwives. It is truly a pleasure to work with such an exceptional group of midwives, and I am so excited for you to meet our team.

I grew up in the Lower Mainland and am a grad of the UBC Midwifery Program. During my student years many of my placements brought me out to the Valley and I’ve enjoyed continuing to work and serve in this community ever since.

I want to acknowledge that we work, live, learn & play on the unceded territory of the Stó:lō, the Semá:th & Mathxwí First Nation.

I am so appreciative of the many clients and families that I have had the privilege to meet and guide through their pregnancies, births and postpartum. Thank you for sharing yourselves, and your journey with me, and allowing me to learn with you, and especially from you. I’m really looking forward to meeting with you all and building our relationship whilst you build your family.

Prior to midwifery I was in the midst of a Sociology degree at UBC and completed my Labour & Delivery Doula training. In my spare time you can usually find me outdoors. My favourite pastimes are camping with friends, cooking & and exploring the Valley with my partner and our dog. I’m very fortunate to call the West Coast my home. I hope you enjoy your time with us and I look forward to meeting you very soon.

I was born and raised in rural South Africa and lived in many parts of the country, including Johannesburg, where I met my wonderful husband. In 2006 we moved to Canada to pursue our tertiary education. I was drawn to midwifery as a career after my own positive experiences birthing two babies with an extraordinary midwife in New Westminster. This experience, coupled with the stories of other women in my circle of friends, set my feet firmly on the path to becoming a midwife.

I began working with childbearing families as a doula and later as a prenatal yoga instructor before graduating from UBC and beginning my work as a midwife. What I love most about midwifery is that it is a model of healthcare that allows the time and space to truly hear people’s stories and to share knowledge in a way that empowers people to make informed decisions about their bodies and their birth experience. For me, practising the art and science of midwifery is about humility, accompaniment, and empowerment. I cherish the connections that I make with families and am grateful for the opportunity to walk alongside them on their path.

I am excited to be working with the wonderful team at Solstice Midwives and to continue to support people in this community as they grow their beautiful families. I gratefully acknowledge that I do my work on the traditional and unceded lands of the Semá:th First Nation and Mathxwí First Nation. Thank you to the original caretakers of this beautiful place we call home.

Gifty Gyekye

My name is Gifty, and I was born and trained as a midwife in Ghana, where I practiced midwifery for 4yrs before relocating to Canada to continue my midwifery journey.

Hello everyone,

My name is Gifty, and I was born and trained as a midwife in Ghana, where I practiced midwifery for 4yrs before relocating to Canada to continue my midwifery journey. I chose Canada because of the diverse approaches to midwifery here. The opportunity to offer services such as home births and water births fascinated me, and I was excited to be part of such a unique healthcare environment.

I hold a BSc in Midwifery and completed the Internationally Educated Midwives Bridging Program (IEMBP) at the University of British Columbia (UBC). My experience as a midwife, particularly in British Columbia, has been amazing so far.

Midwifery never ceases to amaze me—the incredible changes during pregnancy, how each woman experiences them differently, the beauty of labor, and the joy of welcoming new life. It’s a privilege to be part of these intimate moments with families, from assisting in birth to caring for the newborn and supporting mothers as they transition back to their pre-pregnancy state. I truly enjoy every part of this journey!

Outside of midwifery, I love to cook, pray, spend time with friends, listen to music, read, and take walks in beautiful places. These activities help me stay balanced and give me the opportunity to recharge.

I’m excited to be part of this amazing Solstice team, and I look forward to working with such a wonderful community as Abbotsford.
